This piece started out simply as a larger, color version of one of the panels from strip #62 - Saturday Night Elf. The intention was to get some more practice playing with color, which I had only toyed with in my KeenLace submissions. Well, I accomplished that long ago and let it sit, colored but unfinished, for many months.

Eventually (also known as about 4 days ago) I realized that the strip this was inspired by was coming up quickly. I had to finish the project! But it looked so lonely, with only two elves and one large, glowing ball of potentially sparkly evil. At this point, I lost all consciousness. When I awoke, I found that the elves had a new skin tone and a new allegiance.

It was weird, but I was in no mood to argue, so that's what you get.

If it were up to me, I'd have redrawn the disco ball as a Beholder but, you see, I was unconscious at the time.
